Out To Graze Festival

Staying Safe

Introduction

We're extremely proud of the good nature at our event, we've never had a reported crime at Out to Graze. Although the festival is very safe this guide provides you with some simple precautions you can take to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime.

Personal safety

  • Stay with friends or people you trust. You are a less vulnerable target to thieves as a group.
  • Avoid dark areas as much as possible, especially if you are alone. Stay in the well lit, main areas of the event.
  • Move away from any dangerous or antisocial behaviour and alert security if they are not already in the immediate vicinity.
  • Look after yourself and those around you, even people you don’t know. If you suspect somebody is unwell take them to the first aid tent.

Property and tent security

  • Only take what you can afford to lose - don’t take your most expensive possessions and camping equipment.
  • Don’t leave valuables unattended - carry money, credit cards, mobile phones and cameras with you at all times or use secure lockups.
  • Empty and lock your vehicles, taking any valuables with you. Leave the glove compartment open and conspicuously empty.
  • Mark your tent and property with your name and postcode. Thieves don’t want marked property and it will significantly reduce the risk of items being stolen.
  • Leave your tent untidy - don’t make it easy for thieves to grab a bag with everything in it.

Money matters

  • Don’t carry too much money and empty your purse or wallet of everything you don’t need before leaving.
  • Don't keep all your cash and valuables together – spread them around in different pockets.
  • If you use cash machines after dark, don’t go alone.
  • Only take the credit cards you need. Make a note of the credit card numbers and leave it at home, plus the number to call if they are mislaid.

Don't Drink Too Much

By all means enjoy all the festival has to offer but remember that alcohol impairs your judgement. Drinking to excess could lead to you getting into situations that you would otherwise avoid. Try not to drink too much - aside from the fact that dealing with a hangover in a tent is no fun, you can make yourself more vulnerable to crime.

Use the same common sense as you would on any other night out and:

  • Don't drink too much
  • Look after your friends
  • Walk away from trouble

Be aware of your surroundings and when walking round the festival stay with friends, especially at night, as there really is safety in numbers.

Don't Bring Drugs

The law is just the same at Out to Graze as it is in any town or city and if you are found with illegal substances you could be arrested and removed from the festival - and maybe spend a night in the cells for your troubles. Think about your actions, enjoy the festival, but stay on the right side of the law. For more information about drugs, why not talk to Frank www.talktofrank.com/article.aspx?id=3407
