SimpleThe concept for “Simple” was born in 1999 between good friends Nick Gladwin and Sean Holbrook. After a particularly long and disappointing clubbing weekend in Manchester, Nick and Sean decided—over a much-needed cup of coffee—that there was no reason why they couldn’t put their heads together and stage events back at home in Oxford. Simple launched soon after with a string of hugely successful bank holiday parties at the, then, Bar Baby on Cowley Road, going on to establish its first regular monthly event in 2001, at The Cellar. After two years of top notch Saturday nights, Nick and Sean moved venue to the slightly larger Backroom @ The Bully on Cowley Road in October 2003. The bank holiday summer parties continued but on boats down The Thames with Slide and the first Saturday of the month has come to be known, quite simply, as “Simple Saturday”. Over the last few years headliners have included Switch, Mr C, Erol Alkan, Groove Armada's Tom Findlay,Kissy Sell Out, Annie Mac, Streetlife DJs, Simian Mobile Disco, Digitalism's Jens, Alex Metric, Zinc and many more...
SlideSlide was founded in 1994 by Henry Pitchers, Tom Coghlin, Mike Conaghan, Joe Hart, Giles Martin and Justin Keenan. It started as an underground night at Club Latino, Oxford, with its founders as resident DJs. The early days saw a young Andy Cato (now one half of Groove Armada) as a regular guest, along with the likes of Graeme Park, Smokin Jo and the late Tony de Vit. After a couple of very successful years at Club Latino, Slide moved to a bigger venue and regularly attracted over 600 people on a Thursday night. An over-capacity (815) crowd witnessed a legendary set from Carl Cox, whilst 350 more were left outside and disappointed. Slide even had its own tribute night and its residents found themselves described as "the godfathers of the Oxford house music scene". After a 2 year break, in the summer of 2000, Mike Conaghan met Matt Braddock, and they decided to re-launch Slide alongside several other projects. So in October 2000, Matt and Mike re-launched Slide in it's new home of the Zodiac, Oxford's finest music venue. Residents were Gwill Morris (otherwise known as Digweed-fave Main Element) and rising star James Holden. Over the 6 years at the Zodiac, Slide hosted Layo & Bushwacka!, Simian Mobile Disco (Live), Groove Armada, Andrew Weatherall, James Zabiela, David Guetta, Tom Middleton, X-Press 2, Paul Woolford, and many more. Since the Zodiac takeover by the Academy Music Group, Slide has gone from strength to strength, putting on parties with the likes of Soulwax and 2manydjs, Hot Chip Live, Simian Mobile Disco Live, Audio Bullys Live, James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli, Slam, Jamie Jones, Rex The Dog Live, Freeland Live, Stanton Warriors, Annie Mac Presents, Crookers, Herve, Fake Blood, Toddla T and many more. In recent times, Slide has forged a new home at 'Dex' in Brixton where their summer terrace parties gaining a big reputation, hosting the likes of Greg Wilson, Radio Slave, Tom Middleton, Nic Fanciulli, Paul Woolford and Funk D'Void, plus an alternative home at Corsica Studios where they recently put on A Guy Called Gerald and The Revenge.
